Waldeck 1625-GK thaler Dav-7821
This specimen was lot 2013 in Sincona sale 25 (Zürich, October 2015), where it sold for 24,000 CHF (about US$29,645 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Christian und Wolrad IV., 1597-1638 Taler 1625. Wildungen Title Emperor Ferdinand II. CHRI:ET· WOLR:FR:COM:I:WALDE: G()K Helmeted arms, below to the sides 16 - 25. Rev. FERD:II·D:G: ROM:IMP:SEMP:AVGVS: Crowned double eagle with imperial orb on breast. Of the highest rarity. Very fine. Attractive toning.

The county of Waldeck emitted a number of thalers during the seventeenth century (Dav-7815 thru -7824), all rare or unobtainable. The count merged the county of Pyrmont in 1668 and was promoted to prince in 1682.
