Frankfurt 1634-AE thaler Dav-5293
This specimen was lot 1707 in Jean Elsen sale 162 (Brussels, June 2025), where it sold for €200 (about US$277 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, FRANCFORT, Ville impériale, AR Taler, 1634 AE. Au titre de Ferdinand II. D/ Croix avec l'écusson de la ville en cœur. R/ Aigle impériale couronnée. Nettoyé. Trace de bélière. Petits coups au droit. Flan large. (Germany, city of Frankfurt, silver thaler of 1634, struck in the name of Ferdinand II. Obverse: city arms charged on a cross; reverse: crowned imperial eagle. Cleaned, trace of mounting, small nicks on the obverse, Very Fine.)"
This type was struck in several varieties thru most of the seventeenth century with this particular style noted for 1625-37. It is scarce.
