Sincona sale 4, lot 4358

This specimen was lot 4358 in Sincona sale 4 (Zürich, October 2011) where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$532 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Frankfurt, Stadt Goldgulden 1618. Titel Matthias II. Stehender Johannes der Täufer mit Lamm von vorn, zwischen seinen Beinen das Stadtwappen. Rv. Gekrönter, nimbierter Doppeladler mit Reichsapfel auf der Brust. Rdf. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, city of Frankfurt, gold gulden of 1618, in the name of Mattias II. Obverse: standing John the Baptist with lamb in arm with city arms between his feet; reverse: crowned, nimbate double-headed eagle with orb on breast. Rim nicks, very fine to extremely fine)."

This type and the very similar KM 49.1 of 1617 are listed among the more common ducats of Frankfurt.
