Frankfurt 1617 goldgulden Fr-960
This specimen was lot 3997 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €650 (about US$853 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANKFURT, STADT, Goldgulden 1617, mit Titel von Matthias. GOLD. Kl. Zainende, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (city of Frankfurt, goldgulden of 1617, struck in the name of Matthias. Minor clip, very fine to extremely fine.)"
This is listed in the SCWC as a ducat (3.50 g, 0.986 fine) but the weight matches that of a goldgulden, which was slightly lighter. This type and the very similar KM 49.2 of 1618 are listed among the more common goldgulden of Frankfurt. A klippe version (KM 48) exists.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.25 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 3,21 g.
