Stack's Bowers 2020 ANA sale, lot 22593
SB820-22593r.jpg

This specimen was lot 22593 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Las Vegas, August 2020), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 500 Francs, 1993. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo. Arc de Triumph. A technically flawless proof with hard mirrored fields and frosted cameo devices." A silver 100 francs (KM 1031) accompanied this issue. The major French coin catalogs such as Gadoury and Le Franc disdain to list these NCLT's, considering them little more than gift shop souvenirs. The price realized for this example suggests that there are collectors who disagree.

Recorded mintage: 5,000.

Specification: 17 g, 0.920 fine gold.

Catalog reference: Fr-624b; KM-1034.
