France 1991 500 francs KM-1000
This specimen was part of lot 1287 in Jean Elsen sale 133 (Brussels, June 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
Flan poli. (France, fifth republic, since 1959, lot of ten pieces for the Winter Olympic Games at Albertville, including a 1992 500 francs for Pierre de Coubertin. Proof.)"
The auction lot was a boxed set containing ten coins; only the gold 500 francs shown here was photographed. The Paris mint has issued so many NCLT's in recent decades that the standard guides (Le Franc and Gadoury) no longer list them for lack of space.
Recorded mintage: 28,000 proofs.
Specification: 17 g, .920 fine gold, .500 troy oz AGW.
Catalog reference: KM 1000.
