This specimen is the introductory date of France's first trimetallic coin, struck 1992-2001. Production difficulties with the new design led to numerous varieties for the year, notably in the reeding of the edge. This denomination overlapped the lowest value banknote and proved unpopular. 1992 and 1993 are the only common dates and it was produced only for the collector sets 1996-2001. The obverse features the ancient monastery of Mont St.-Michel.
Recorded mintage: 60,000,000 (all varieties).
Specification: 9 g, trimetallic (aluminum bronze and nickel), 27 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: F.403/2, KM 1008.2.
