This specimen is the common date of a series struck 1943-44 by the Vichy régime. It superseded a larger (20 mm) zinc ten centimes struck 1941-43. In 1939, bread was 3.10 francs/kg; in 1945, 6.67 francs/kg; in 1950, 35.4 francs/kg[1]. This coin is very common in circulated condition but hard to find choice. The issue of ten centimes ceased in 1946, not to resume until 1962 with the new French franc.
Recorded mintage: 58,463,000.
Specification: 1.5 g, zinc, 17 mm diameter, reeded edge, after a design by E. E. Lindauer (1869-1942).
