This specimen is a slightly scarce date of a type struck at the Castelsarrasin mint 1944 only under the French collaborationist Vichy régime. This temporary branch mint operated 1943-46. The new franc which replaced it in 1960 with the inauguration of the Fifth Republic was worth one hundred of these francs. This type was not demonetized until 2002 but probably ceased to circulate after the reform of 1959.
Recorded mintage: 74,859,005 (including the Morlon type).
Specification: 1.3 g, aluminum, 23 mm diameter, after a design by Lucien Bazor (1889-1974).
Catalog reference: F.223/7, KM 902.2.
