France 1945 10 centimes
This specimen is the common date of a series struck 1945-46 by the provisional government at Paris, Beaumont-le-Roger and Castelsarrasin. It superseded a similar coin struck by the Vichy régime 1943-44. This design was adapted from the copper-nickel ten centimes issued before the war but inflation forced the régime to use zinc. In 1939, bread was 3.10 francs/kg; in 1945, 6.67 francs/kg; in 1950, 35.4 francs/kg[1]. This coin is very common in circulated condition but hard to find choice. The issue of ten centimes ceased in 1946, not to resume until 1962 with the new franc.
Recorded mintage: 38,174,000[1].
Specification: 1.5 g, zinc, 17 mm diameter, reeded edge, after a design by E. E. Lindauer (1869-1942).
