The specimen shown is a five centimes of a type struck under the Third Republic of France 1898-1921. All are Paris mint issues. There are 32 dates in the series, some expensive but only the 1921 is rare. The 1917 is a common date. The total production for the series is about 211 million. The design was also used on bronze one, two and ten centimes of the Belle Epoque. A copper-nickel five centimes with a central hole was also minted in 1917. All the bronze five centimes pieces were demonetized in 1935.

Specification: 5 g, bronze, 25 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Jean-Baptiste Daniel-Dupuis (1849-99).
