The second specimen was lot 74855 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $145. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 25 Centimes, 1917. Paris Mint. PCGS MS-67. Struck in Nickel." This type was struck 1914-17 and superseded a 22-sided coin struck 1904-05 (F.169). Wartime shortages caused the government to convert the denomination to copper-nickel in 1917 and this date is rare. It may distinguished from the copper-nickel issue by being magnetic and having an underline in "CMES</sup".

Recorded mintage: 65,038.

Specification: nickel, 5 g, 24 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by E. E. Lindauer (1869-1942).

Catalog reference: KM-867; Gad-379; F.170/5.
