France 1826W 2 francs rev DSLR.jpg

The first specimen was lot 30383 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 2 Francs, 1826-W. Lille Mint. Charles X. PCGS MS-63. An incredibly attractive specimen, this piece is doused in a rich and sparkling luster that is seemingly unbroken. A few light adjustment marks are noted on the reverse, though these do not score too deeply into the devices. A charming example, and the sole finest certified by PCGS." It is one of a series struck 1825-30 during the reign of Charles X (1824-30). This is an issue of the Lille mint which closed in 1846. The Lille mint reopened 1853-57 to strike bronze coinage.

Specification: 27 mm diameter, 10 g, 0.900 fine silver, reeded edge. Designed by Auguste François Michaut, 1786-1879.

Recorded Mintage: 154,453[1] (priced about 60% more than the most common date).
