Jean Elsen sale 147, lot 1690

This specimen was lot 1690 in Jean Elsen sale 147 (Brussels, June 2021), where it sold for €110 (about US$161 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Charles X (1824-1830), AR 1/4 franc, 1826W, Lille. Patine foncée. Très Beau à Superbe. (kingdom of France, Charles X, 1824-30, quarter franc of 1826, Lille mint. Nice patina, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"

This tiny coin was struck at Paris under the régime of king Charles X of France (1824-30). It is a somewhat scarce date of a type struck 1825-30. All quarter francs of this reign are of this type, which is common. It was demonetized in 1852. The catalog[2] notes 42 dates for the type, some very rare.

Specification: 1.25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 15 mm diameter, plain edge.
