Heritage sale 61259, lot 99234

This specimen was lot 99234 in Heritage sale 61259 (Dallas, TX, February 2022), where it sold for $456. The catalog description^[1] noted, "France: Louis XVI Ecu 1783-L AU58 NGC, Bayonne mint. A handsome piece fielding superior eye appeal, bolstered by a strong iridescent tone welling in the margins." The Bayonne mint struck this type 1775-91. Its location on the main trade route between France and Spain gave it access to ample supplies of Spanish bullion and most dates are common.

Specification: 29.45 g, 0.917 fine silver, 39 mm diameter, lettered edge, designed by Duvivier.
