This specimen was lot 1093 in Goldberg's NY International sale 58 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $4,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "France. Louis XV (1715-1774). Gold Louis d'or au bandeau, 1771-L. Bayonne mint. Original mint luster. Unlisted date, Rare. The only example graded at PCGS. In PCGS holder graded MS 62." The louis d'or au bandeau was introduced in 1740 and was struck at all the mints. The type is common altho most individual dates are rare. The mints were supposed to switch to the louis d'or à la vieille tête in 1771 but were permitted to use up old dies of the louis d'or au bandeau.

Specification: 8.16 g, 0.917 fine gold, 22-23 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by J. C. Roëttiers.
