This specimen was lot 1345 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$371 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH Louis XV. 1715-1774. 1/10 Ecu au bandeau 1764, Paris. Vorzüglich-FDC. (France, Louis XV, 1715-74, tenth écu 'of the ribbon' of 1764, Paris mint. Extremely fine to Uncirculated.)"

This coin, called a dixième d'écu au bandeau, was the French equivalent of a dime. In the coinage system of the ancien régime, the 1/10 écu = 12 sols. The type was struck 1740-72 but is recorded for the Paris mint ("A") in 1740-54, 1756-61 and 1763-70 only. Despite the interrupted dates of issue, Paris was the most faithful issuer of this denomination.

Recorded mintage: unknown but slightly scarce[2].

Specification: 2.95 g, 0.917 fine silver, 22 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by J.-C. Röettiers. This specimen is 2.95 g.
