This diminutive coin, called a dixième d'écu au bandeau, was the French equivalent of a dime. In the coinage system of the ancien régime, the dixième d'écu = 12 sols. The type was struck 1740-70 and is recorded for the Montpellier mint ("N") for most of those years.

Recorded mintage: 55,958. The SCWC lists this date as somewhat scarce but Droulers[1] lists this date at about double the common date (1744-A or 1746-A). After some substantial issues in the 1740's, mintages dwindled in the 1760's.

Specification: 2.95 g, 0.917 fine silver, 22 mm diameter.
