Sincona sale 63, lot 824

This specimen was lot 824 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 1,300 CHF (about US$1,629 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Frankreich, konigreich, Louis XV. 1715-1774. 2 Louis d'or au bandeau du Béarn 1761, Pau. Selten. Vorzüglich. Leicht justiert. (kingdom of France, Louis XV, 1715-74, double louis d'or of the ribbon of Bearn of 1761, Pau mint. Rare, Extremely fine, Minor adjustment marks.)"

This is a common date of a common mint for this type, which was struck at that Pyrenean mint 1742-70.

Recorded mintage: 71,258. not rare but still worth a premium[2].

Specification: 16.31 g, 0.917 fine gold, reeded edge, designed by J.-C. Röettiers, this specimen 16.23 g.
