This specimen was lot 22148 in Heritage sale 61352 (Dallas, December 2023), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Louis XV gold Louis d'Or 1738-D AU55 NGC, Lyon mint." This louis d'or aux lunettes is recorded for 1726-40 and is among the more common gold coins of the French ancien régime, this date is fairly common.

Recorded mintage: 27,416.

Specification: 8.15 g, 0.917 fine gold, 24 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Norbert Röettiers.
