This specimen was lot 913 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE: Louis XV, 1715-1774, AV louis d'or, Tours, 1737-E, very faint surface hairlines, UNC, ex Dr. Robert A. Rosenfeld Collection, ex Coin Galleries Auction, July 18, 1991, Lot 860, with original ticket." This type is recorded for 1726-40 and is among the more common gold coins of the French ancien régime.

Recorded mintage: 13,402[2], an available date.

Specification: 8.16 g, 0.917 fine gold, 22-23 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Norbert Roëttiers.
