Sincona sale 57, lot 2903

This specimen was lot 2903 in Sincona sale 57 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$595 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Louis XV. 1715-1774. 1/16 Ecu aux 8 L 1725, Caen. Sehr selten. Sehr schön. (kingdom of France, Louis XV, 1715-74, 1/16 écu of the eight L's of 1725, Caen mint. Very rare, Very fine.)"

This rare type was struck 1725 only at six mints. It accompanied an eighth écu, a quarter écu, a half écu and one écu.

Recorded mintage: 22,630.

Specification: 1.47 g, 0.917 fine silver, 18 mm, this specimen 1.42 g.
