Sincona sale 63, lot 814

This specimen was lot 814 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 1,400 CHF (about US$1,754 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Frankreich, konigreich, Louis XV. 1715-1774. Louis d'or mirliton 1724, T, Nantes. Typ grandes palmes. Selten. Fast vorzüglich. Leicht justiert. (kingdom of France, Louis XV, 1715-74, gold louis mirliton with large palms of 1724, Nantes mint. Rare, About extremely fine, Minor adjustment marks.)"

This type superseded the louis d'or Mirliton, palmes courtes, struck in France in 1723, and was replaced by the louis d'or aux lunettes, struck in large quantities 1726-40.

Recorded mintage: 157,149, a common date[2].

Specification: 6.52 g, 0.917 fine gold, 22-23 mm diameter, reeded edge, this specimen 6.51 g.
