This specimen was lot 99113 in Heritage sale 61253 (Dallas, January 2022), where it sold for $3,840. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Louis XIV gold Louis d'Or 1712-(cow) AU55 NGC, Pau mint. Speckled in fine flow lines throughout the fields, yielding a satiny complexion balanced by touches of darker patina that grip and accentuate the devices. Glowing with luster and clearly at the border of Mint State condition." This type was struck 1709-15 in some numbers but it is scarce today, with the Pau mint issues being rare. It was the last louis of Louis XIV. Its initial face value was 16 livres 10 sols tournois, later increased to 20 livres.

Specification: 8.15 g, 0.917 fine gold, 24-26 mm diameter, reeded edge.
