This specimen was lot 1068 in Goldberg's NY International sale 58 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $6,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "France. Louis XIV (1643-1715). Gold Louis d'or au soleil du Bearn, 1715-Cow. Pau mint. Well struck with attractive light tone and luster. Very Rare. In PCGS holder graded AU 58." This type was struck 1709-15 in some numbers but it is scarce today, with the Pau mint issues being rare. It was the last louis of Louis XIV. Its initial face value was 16 livres 10 sols tournois, later increased to 20 livres.

Recorded mintage: 23,715, noted as "reported not confirmed"[2].

Specification: 8.15 g, 0.917 fine gold, 24-26 mm diameter, reeded edge.
