Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 74691

This specimen was lot 74691 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 1/2 Ecu, 1660-K. Bordeaux Mint. Louis XIV. PCGS AU-55. From the Richard August Collection. Ex: Enterprise Collection (Heritage Auctions - 1/2004) Lot # 14666." Droulers[2] devotes catalog numbers 530 thru 557 to describe the numerous variations of this bust, introduced in 1659 when the king was 21 years old. This subtype of the demi-écu juvénile was struck 1660-61 and is a common date for the type but it is still priced double a common date demi-écu à la mèche longue.

Specification: 13.72 g, 0.917 fine silver, 32-33 mm diameter, plain edge.
