This specimen was lot 42753 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 1/2 Ecu, 1647-N. Montpellier Mint. Louis XIV (1643-1715). PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield. Entirely lustrous with a few scattered marks through Louis XIV's portrait." The specimen shown is a demi-écu à la mèche longue struck at Montpellier during the reign of Louis XIV. Droulers[2] prices this date about 55% higher than the common date (1655-A).

Recorded mintage: 55,092.

Specification: 13.72 g, 0.917 fine silver, 31-32 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Jean Warin; this specimen 13.66 grams.
