Jean Elsen sale 163, lot 1281

This specimen was lot 1281 in Jean Elsen sale 163 (Brussels, November 2025), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,386 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, Philips IV (1621-1665), AR dukaton, 1666 (sic), Brugge. Postume slag. Vz/ Geharnarst bb. r. Kz/ Gekroond wapenschild gesteund door twee leeuwen. Onderaan het juweel van het Gulden Vlies. Zeer zeldzaam. Gereinigd. Deels zwak op kz. (county of Flanders, Philip IV (1621-65), silver ducaton of 1666, Bruges mint, second type, posthumous strike. Obverse: armored bust right; reverse: crowned arms supported by two lions, the jewel of the Golden Fleece below. Very rare, cleaned, light marks on the obverse, very Fine.)

This type is common, having been struck since 1636, but this date is rare. The mint should have been using the bust of Charles II.
