Flanders 1665 ducaton Dav-4457
This specimen was lot 1545 in Jean Elsen sale 162 (Brussels, June 2025), where it sold for €280 (about US$388 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, Philips IV (1621-1665), AR dukaton, 1665, Brugge. Tweede type. Vz/ Geharnarst bb. r. Kz/ Gekroond wapenschild gesteund door twee leeuwen. Onderaan het juweel van het Gulden Vlies. Vermoedelijk uit een wrak. Licht gekorrodeerd. (county of Flanders, Philip IV, 1621-65, silver ducaton of 1665, Bruges mint, second type. Obverse: armored bust right; reverse: crowned arms supported by two lions, the jewel of the Golden Fleece below. Likely sea salvaged, some corrosion, about Very Fine.)"
This type of 1636-65 is priced about the same as the ducatons of Brabant.
