Brabant 1665(h) ducaton Dav-4454
This specimen was lot 1103 in Jean Elsen sale 151 (Brussels, June 2022), where it sold for €260 (about US$325 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRABANT, Duché, Philippe IV (1621-1665), AR ducaton, 1665, Anvers. Deuxième type. D/ B. dr. et cuir. à d. R/ Ecu couronné, tenu par deux lions. En dessous, le bijou de la Toison d'or. Nettoyé. presque Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Philip IV, 1621-65, silver ducaton of 1665, Antwerp mint, second type. Obverse: draped and armored bust right; reverse: two lions support large crowned royal arms, decorated with the Order of the Golden Fleece. Cleaned, about Very Fine.)"
The regular type, issued 1636-65 from Antwerp (shown here, with hand mintmark) and Brussels, is scarce but not rare. The other provinces issued this type, including Artois, Flanders, Tournai and Luxembourg.
