Flanders 1668 2 ducatons Dav-4478
This specimen was lot 796 in Jean Elsen sale 124 (Brussels, March 2015), where it sold for €4,200 (about US$5,237 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, Karel II (1665-1700), AR dukaton, 1668, Brugge. Eerste type. Op dubbel gewicht geslagen. Droit: Bb. radié als kind. Revers: Gekroond wapenschild gesteund door twee leeuwen. Onderaan het juweel van het Gulden Vlies. Zeer Zeldzaam. Tikjes op vz. Prachtig. (county of Flanders, Charles II (1665-1700), silver double ducaton of 1668, Bruges mint, first type. Obverse: infant bust to right with bare head; reverse: crowned arms supported by two lions, order of the Golden Fleece below. Very rare, minor nicks on the obverse, extremely fine.)
