This specimen was lot 33465 in Heritage sale 3114 (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $750. The lot description[1] noted, "Finland. Russian Duchy. Nicholas II 10 Pennia 1898 MS63 Red and Brown PCGS, Helsinki mint. Unquestionably the most challenging date in the nearly twenty-year series, so it should come as no surprise that this Choice specimen with its amber tint sits at the top of the census. The understated elegance of the obverse design is worthy of more than a cursory glance." This type is listed for 1895-1900, 1905-17 and is the last issue of this denomination under the Tsarist regime. This date is scarce but the wartime issues are very common. Russian defeats in World War One enabled the Finns, who had long chafed under Russian rule, to declare independence.

Recorded mintage: 40,000, the lowest mintage date.

Specification: 12.8 g, copper, 30 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 14.
