This specimen was lot 899 in Stephen Album internet sale 28 (Santa Rosa, CA, July 2024), where it sold for $66. The catalog description[1] noted, "FINLAND: Nicholas II, Grand Duke, 1894-1917, AE penni, 1898, a superb red lustrous mint state example! PCGS graded MS65 RD." This type was struck by the Tsarist administration 1895, 1898-1916. Most dates, including this one, are common. Russian defeats in World War One enabled the Finns, who had long chafed under Russian rule, to declare independence.
