Fiji 1937 florin
This specimen was lot 3658 in Steve Album Auction 53 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "FIJI: George VI, 1936-1952, AR florin, 1937, a lovely lustrous example! PCGS graded MS63." The Fiji Islands began received its own coinage in 1934, the year after New Zealand. The florin was the highest denomination struck. The arms reverse was introduced in 1934 and used until 1965 and the end of sterling coinage. The obverse shown here was modified in 1938 to move the word "EMPEROR" under the king's bust (KM 13). Altho mintages were small, enough were saved that most dates are available today. The proofs, however, are rare.
