Erfurt 1632 ducat Fr-919
This specimen was lot 2653 in Künker sale 404 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €2,400 (about US$3,149 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DIE STADT ERFURT. DIE SCHWEDISCHE BESETZUNG, 1631-1648. Gustav II. Adolf, 1631-1632. Dukat 1632. Münzmeister Johann Schneider („Weissmantel“). Brustbild r. mit Lorbeerkranz, Spitzenkragen und umgelegtem Mantel//Krone zwischen der geteilten Jahreszahl 16 . - 3Z, darunter IOH : X : EIN / GVTER ° HIRTE / LESSET SEIN / LEBEN FVR / DIE SCHAFF. GOLD. Leicht gewellt, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Slg. Friedrich Popken, Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 263, Osnabrück 2015, Nr. 28. (Germany, city of Erfurt, Gustavus Adolphus, 1631-32, ducat of 1632. Obverse: laureate and mantled bust right in pointed collar; reverse: crown divides the date, onscription below. Lightly creased, very fine to extremely fine.)"
Several ducats were minted for the Swedish king while he occupied Erfurt. This type was struck 1632-34. This one would have sold for more but for the crease. Erfurt was an exclave of Mainz between Gotha and Weimar in Thuringia.
