Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 75401

This specimen was lot 75401 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Groat (2 Pence), ND (1567-70). London Mint; mm: Coronet. Elizabeth I. PCGS EF-40. Obverse: Crowned bust left; Reverse: Long cross fourchee. From the Richard August Collection." This undated type, worth two pence, was struck 1566-71 with several mintmarks with the coronet shown here known for 1567-70. Milled halfgroats are known (S-2606). They were not dated but it's unlikely they were struck this late.

Specification: 16 grains (1.04 g), 0.925 fine silver.
