England (1502-04) 1/2 angel Fr-152
This specimen was lot 1551 in Sincona sale 82 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 1,400 CHF (about US$1,874 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Henry VII. 1485-1509. 1/2 Angel n. d. (1502-1504), Tower Mint. Type IV. Mintmark "greyhound's head". NGC AU Details. Leicht gereinigt (Lightly cleaned)." The angel was one-third of a pound or six shillings eight pence. This half angel would be three shillings fourpence. The denomination was introduced in the reign of Edward IV to replace the gold noble and was struck until the reign of Charles I. Many varieties and mintmarks exist for Henry VII.
