Emilia 1860 5 lire Dav-138
This specimen was lot 2548 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 6,500 CHF (about US$7,790 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY | Königreich, Vittorio Emanuele II. Re Eletto, 1859-1861. 5 Lire 1860, Bologna. Very rare. NGC UNC Details. Slightly cleaned." In 1859-61, a provisional coinage was struck in Florence and Bologna for Emilia-Romagna while Italy was being unified. Issues included a fifty centesimi, a lira, a two lire, a five lire (shown here) and ten and twenty lire in gold. The following year, Victor Emanuel, formerly king of Sardinia, was proclaimed king of a united Italy.
