This specimen was lot 2423 in Ponterio sale 164 (New York, January 2012), where it sold for $1,322.50. The catalog description[1] noted,
"GERMANY. Eichstatt. Taler, 1796-CD. Josef Von Stubenberg (1790-1802). Lustrous, lightly toned. UNCIRCULATED."
The bishopric of Eichstatt, now in Bavaria, occasionally issued coins. This thaler and its accompanying half thaler were minted in Munich and are are only scarce as opposed to rare.
