Egypt 1976 pound Fr-133
This specimen was lot 76406 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "EGYPT. Pound, AH 1396/1976. Cairo Mint. NGC MS-62. A low mintage issue from the modern Egyptian series, this appealing Mint State example honors the Egyptian singer Om Kalthoum (Umm Kulthum), whose voice resonated powerfully with audiences. Displaying only limited signs of handling and impressive appeal, this commemorative is certain to command the attention of many." Umm Kulthum (1900-75) was an Egyptian singer, songwriter, and film actress active from the 1920s to the 1970s. Her name was spelled Oum Kalsoum in French. This design was also issued in silver (KM 455).
