This specimen was lot 1419 in Sedwick sale 12 (Winter Park, FL, October 2012), where it sold for $153.40. The catalog description[1] noted, "Quito, Ecuador, 1 real, 1839MV. Old-toned Fine with very weak centers but traces of original luster, small split in edge." This specimen is one of a series struck 1836-41. It is scarce, even in low grade, but not rare. All pre-decimal Ecuadorian coinage is hard to find and hotly pursued.
Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.
Specification: 3.0-3.4 g, 0.667 fine silver, this specimen 2.9 grams.
