This specimen was lot 21090 in Heritage sale 3008 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $2,932.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ecuador. Republic Real 1841-MV, toned Fine, evenly worn with all details boldly expressed and no obvious flaws. Rare date." This specimen is one of a series struck 1836-41. It is scarce, even in low grade. All pre-decimal Ecuadorian coinage is hard to find and hotly pursued.
