This specimen was lot 8331 in Ponterio sale 154 (Baltimore, June 2010), where it sold for $661.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "ECUADOR. 4 Reales, 1841-MV. Toned, good metal quality. BOLD VERY FINE." This specimen is one of a series struck 1841-43. It is scarce, even in low grade. All pre-decimal Ecuadorian coinage is hard to find and hotly pursued.
