Dominican Rep 1952 peso rev DSLR.jpg

The specimen shown was struck for the Dominican Republic towards the end of the regime of Rafael Trujillo, among the more brutal of Latin America's long roll of bloodthirsty dictators. Soon after his assassination in 1961, the capital, which he had renamed Ciudad Trujillo, reverted to its former name, Santo Domingo. The other date of this type, 1939, is very rare but this date is common despite the low mintage.

Recorded mintage: 20,000.

Specification: 26.7 g, 0.900 fine silver, .773 troy oz ASW, 38 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by T. H. Paget.

Catalog reference: KM 22.
