The specimen shown is a one year type struck for the Dominican Republic along with billon ten centavos (KM 13), twenty centavos (KM 14) and half peso (KM 15). This series is usually found extensively worn, suggesting that Gresham's law was in effect. Coinage for the Dominican Republic was sporadic during the nineteenth century, reflecting the political and fiscal chaos obtaining there. The dies bear the Paris mintmark ("A") and French privy marks but it is believed the coins were actually struck elsewhere.
Recorded mintage: 1,455,000.
Specification: 25 g, .350 fine silver, .281 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.
