This specimen was lot 32690 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "British Colony. Elizabeth II gold Proof "Pope John Paul II" 300 Dollars 1979-CHI PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC." Dominican coinage is scanty and is comprised solely of Non Circulating Legal Tender commemoratives. This was minted at the Valcambi mint in Switzerland, along with a silver ten dollars (KM 16).
Recorded mintage: 5,000 plus 300 proofs.
Specification: 19.20 g, 0.900 fine gold, AGW 0.5555 oz.
