Stack's Bowers November 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 78233
SB1125-78233r.jpg

This specimen was lot 78233 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Deventer. Lion Dollar (Daalder), 1664. PCGS VF-35. From the Richard August Collection." This type was struck 1664-68. Other dates include 1640, 1662-64, 1684-91 and 1698. The municipal mints' habit of coining to short weight and short alloy infuriated the Estates General, which spent most of the seventeenth century on a campaign to close them all. The auctioneers incorrectly attributed this to KM 63.1 (moor's head mintmark).

Recorded mintage: 20,000.

Specification: 27.68 g, 0.750 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-4875, KM-63.2 (sitting dog mintmark).
