Künker Auction 439, lot 2020

This specimen was lot 2020 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$4,127 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DÄNEMARK, KÖNIGREICH Frederik III., 1648-1670. 1/2 Dukatenklippe 1648, Kopenhagen. Münzmeister Heinrich Köhler. Stempelschneider Hans zum Busch. GOLD. R Sehr schön. Exemplar der Sammlung Münzen und Medaillen aus adeligem Privatbesitz. (kingdom of Denmark, Frederick III, 1648-70, klippe half ducat of 1648, Copenhagen mint. Rare, very fine.)"

While flinging largesse to the crowd was a common practice of many monarchs, only in Scandinavia were special coins struck for the purpose.
