Denmark 1609 4 skilling
This specimen was lot 10095 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,251). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 4 Skilling, 1609. Copenhagen Mint. Christian IV. NGC AU-55. Rare date with nice toning. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." This type was struck at Copenhagen 1602, 1604 and 1609 and was worth 1/24 speciedaler. Another four skilling of 1609 (KM 41) featured the king's bust on the obverse. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648) had a long but only moderately successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain.
