This specimen was lot 20372 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2019), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "DANISH WEST INDIES. 24 Skilling, 1763. Frederik V. NGC AU-55. A nicely preserved SCARCE issue with light mottled patina. Signs of handling consistent for the grade with nice even wear on the high points. Seldom encountered in this state of preservation sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters." This type was struck 1763-65 along with a 6 skilling and 12 skilling. Few of the European powers bothered to strike coinage for their colonies in the Caribbean; the economic theory of the day suggested that colonies should be a source of bullion, not a drain.

Recorded mintage: 64,000.

Specification: 6.50 g, 0.500 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-9; Sieg-7; H-6.
